Please explain it to me

Go look at prices on a good, resto-modded (these people want modern amenities) C1 or C2. Then you will understand.

Nostalgia is a terrible thing.

That silver C2-styled one is gorgeous. The rest are abominations. So sayeth the man with the Corvette tattoo.

These “conversions” or whatever you want to call them, cost 100k+ and look cheesy with the “modern” interior and the raked windshields...
![]() 06/15/2016 at 21:06 |

The windshield is all kinds of weird looking...

I think that’s something they didn’t change on that one...

This one was $66,000. You could buy a new corvette for less.

Corvette owners are generally classless, have poor taste, and think stuff like that will be worth a lot of money someday when all they did is ruin a perfectly okay Corvette.
![]() 06/15/2016 at 21:17 |

These are the same people who buy pt cruisers for the “retro” look, they just have more money.
![]() 06/15/2016 at 21:20 |

But this is ok right?
![]() 06/15/2016 at 21:21 |

Yes.

I'm not necessarily anti-custom Vettes, I've just always loathed the ones that try to make a C5 look like an older one. Especially the C1, those are the absolute worst.
![]() 06/15/2016 at 21:25 |

There is nothing wrong with this.
![]() 06/15/2016 at 21:28 |

They wouldn’t be so bad if they weren’t so gaudy.

Please explain
![]() 06/15/2016 at 21:45 |

Yeah, but they’re meant to appeal to people who think this
is classy and understated. Airbrushed hood insulation, that's what we're talking about here.

Ewww
![]() 06/15/2016 at 22:33 |

No. This is wrong, and bad. These abominations are badong.

Blind people need cars too.

I’m guessing you saw this. It's the impala fins that really offend me. That silver on meant to look like a Stigray looks cool, weird but cool.
My retro Corvette post from a few weeks ago.

What are those cans in the back? The colouring suggests Farelca buffing compounds, but upon closer inspection, the design definitely is not a match.

They need to do something with the mirrors, but otherwise agree. From that angle at least, it looks good.
![]() 06/16/2016 at 08:29 |

There’s no explaining. Most of them look awful. The retro designs just don’t work with the width and length of a C5, not to mention the windshield rake.

If it was a convertible, the ‘62 would ‘work’. The others just not so much.Either way, these do two things.
First is you can have cruiser car that can actually get serviced at normal places and has working heat and AC and antilock brakes and stuff.
Second, just about everybody with these classic corvettes does nothing with them except park them at shows and occasionally drive around with a ‘hey look at me’ look on their face. So for a $30,000 conversion you can bask in the ‘hey look at me’ instead of the $150,000+ that it requires to get an actual classic Corvette these days.

Oh that hurts

That second one is...
